Battery details, Lipo 16.8v

Excalibur has used the 16.8v (at full charge) lithium polymer batteries since the bikes' inception. They are 1.0 a/h batteries which are the originals purchased 3 years ago so have lasted well. One battery was accidently over-discharged and didn't recover. The pic shows the charger, which is fed from 12v supply. This a special charger type that prevents overcharge and balances the cells. Bottom right is a voltmeter to check the volts of each cell plus the total. These items were bought from HobbyKing of Hong Kong.
Lipo gives excellent power to weight ratio and was the way to go when I studied the battery market.

Caution: DON'T mistreat these as they can explode!! No shorting out or damage allowed! Also it pays to store in a metal/fireproof container. I use a vintage biscuit tin for the purpose.
